Instead of playing extra innings in oppressive heat and humidity, West Warwick and Coventry ended in a 2-2 tie after seven innings of their league game.

Coventry, who came from behind to tie the game, received a solid outing from Jayden Voelhker. The righty, struck out 13 batters and allowed just two earned runs on two hits in six innings of work.

West Warwick’s Nick Brown, who will be entering his sophomore year at WWHS, pitched five scoreless innings. In fact, he allowed only one hit while striking out nine batters.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, West Warwick took a 2-0 lead when LIam Gravier walked, stole second and scored on a double to the left-field fence by Kyle DaSilva. DaSilva, who will enter his senior year at WWHS, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the sixth, Coventry tied the game with two runs when Jordan Dupre (hit batsman) scored on a hit by Tyler Reall. Reall, like DaSilva an inning earlier, stole second and scored on a wild pitch with two outs.

West Warwick, who was limited to two hits, received six free passes via four walks and two hit batsmen. In fact, they were in scoring position in five of the seven innings by stealing six bases. DaSilva (1/1, double, 2 hbp and 3 stolen bases) and Sam Corrado (1/3, one single and 1 stolen base) earned WWCM’s only hits.

For Coventry, the received hits from Tyler Barr (double), Alex Windrow (single) and Reall (double).

Led by the Conrad Swanson’s three hits (third home run) and six rbi’s, East Greenwich defeated East Providence, 12-3!

Picking up the victory was Jack Matus, who scattered seven hits over six innings of work.

In addition to Swanson, EG received two hits each from Owen Drolet and Matt Friedman.

Led by a 16-hit attack, Flood Ford sailed by East Greenwich, 14-6.

Offensively, Flood was led by Chris Manzo (2/3, 3 rbi.’s & 2 runs), Connor Kennedy (3/4, one double) and Max Turner (3/3).
